Levi Strauss UK has officially expressed anxiety that the Trump administration’s policies could lead to a consumer backlash in Britain. In its latest financial report, the company stated that “rising anti-Americanism” could cause shoppers to shun its products in favour of European competitors, introducing a significant element of political risk to its business outlook.

Despite the warning, the denim maker’s current performance is robust. It posted a notable 8.8% increase in sales, reaching £96.8 million for the year. Pre-tax profits also saw a healthy 23% uplift to £9.6 million. This strong showing highlights what the company stands to lose if consumer sentiment were to turn against American brands.

The concern is not merely speculative. Other major US companies have already seen a negative impact in the UK. Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla, for instance, experienced a dramatic sales drop of more than 50% in July. This provides a tangible example of how quickly market dynamics can shift, potentially influenced by geopolitical factors.

This consumer sentiment is developing against a backdrop of global trade instability, largely driven by Trump’s “liberation day” tariffs. These protectionist measures have been met with international condemnation and legal challenges.
