Intense rainfall has enveloped Istanbul, significantly increasing the risk of flooding and transportation disruptions. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Disaster Coordination Center reports that the rainfall is expected to intensify around 11 a.m., following earlier morning showers. The heavy rain is predicted to persist throughout the afternoon, easing gradually by 4 p.m.
As cooler air sweeps into the area, temperatures have plummeted to approximately 14°C, remaining below the seasonal average. This shift in weather conditions has created a setup for thunderstorms, lightning, and strong showers, as warm, moisture-laden air near the surface clashes with the cooler atmosphere above.
Meteorological authorities have issued warnings for Istanbul and several provinces in the Marmara and western Black Sea regions. Residents have been cautioned about the potential for sudden flooding, strong winds, and lightning, all of which could lead to significant disruptions in transportation.
Despite the current adverse weather conditions, relief is on the horizon as forecasts indicate an improvement starting Thursday. Temperatures are expected to rise to around 21°C, with no significant rainfall anticipated.
