In a significant diplomatic engagement, Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization chief, Ibrahim Kalın, met with Egypt’s General Intelligence Service head, Hassan Rashad, in Ankara on Monday. The high-level discussions centered on the Gaza ceasefire, bilateral cooperation, and pressing regional security issues, marking a critical step in the strengthening of ties between the two nations. Both Türkiye and Egypt are increasingly coordinating their efforts to stabilize the Middle East and Africa, with this meeting reflecting their growing diplomatic and security partnership.

A key topic on the agenda was the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Turkish security sources indicated that Kalın and Rashad reached an understanding to boost their coordination and cooperation in response to what they described as Israel’s mounting violations of the ceasefire. Kalın emphasized Türkiye’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people, affirming Ankara’s commitment to providing aid amid the ongoing conflict in the region.

Beyond the issues in Gaza, the intelligence leaders explored broader regional developments and strategies to enhance cooperation between Türkiye and Egypt. Their dialogue included discussions on fostering political reconciliation in Libya, with a focus on unifying the country’s governing bodies and military forces from the east and west under a single national administration.

The conversation also touched upon security challenges elsewhere in the region. Kalın and Rashad shared insights on the evolving scenarios in Somalia and the conflict in Sudan, which involves the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. They assessed the broader impacts of these crises on regional stability and considered opportunities for ongoing dialogue on mutual security concerns.

This meeting highlights the burgeoning partnership between Türkiye and Egypt following the renewal of diplomatic relations. As both countries aim to play more substantial roles in resolving regional conflicts, continued intelligence collaboration is anticipated to be a pivotal aspect of their efforts to bolster stability, particularly in Gaza and other areas confronting persistent security issues.
