Christopher Nolan has addressed the discussion surrounding his choice to use modern English dialogue in his latest film, The Odyssey. The director explained that this decision was made to enhance the emotional accessibility of the ancient tale for today’s audiences.

The film’s trailer, showing characters speaking in contemporary language despite its ancient Greek setting, sparked debate among viewers. Nolan responded by stating that opting for dialogue with greater emotional impact, rather than sticking to historically accurate speech, was an obvious choice for him, even if it might stir controversy.

In this adaptation of The Odyssey, the narrative centers on Odysseus’ protracted journey back home following the Trojan War. The film features Matt Damon in the role of Odysseus, with Anne Hathaway portraying Penelope, Tom Holland as Telemachus, and Robert Pattinson as Antinous.

This epic adventure represents Nolan’s most ambitious project to date, boasting a large ensemble cast that includes Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and Lupita Nyong’o. The film is slated for release in Indian cinemas on July 16, with a subsequent international rollout.
