Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has pledged to assertively uphold Iran’s positions on the global stage ahead of his trip to New York for the United Nations General Assembly. Speaking on Tuesday before his departure, Pezeshkian emphasized Iran’s commitment to presenting its stance with determination and safeguarding the rights and interests of its citizens in international forums.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in New York on Monday to lead Iran’s diplomatic delegation at the annual UN gathering. Upon arrival, Araghchi engaged in a phone discussion with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, focusing on issues pertinent to the General Assembly.
Araghchi stated that Tehran’s primary objective at the UN is to spotlight what it perceives as the legitimate rights and interests of the Iranian people. During the session, he is expected to meet with various foreign ministers and officials from other countries attending the event.
This diplomatic effort by Iran comes amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, particularly concerning the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a critical channel for global oil and gas shipments. Iran has conveyed conditions through Qatar for reopening the waterway, amid continued U.S. measures targeting Iranian ports.
