In a bid to bolster strategic cooperation, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened in Istanbul. Their high-level discussions, held at the Vahdettin Palace, centered on enhancing collaboration in various sectors including trade, defense, energy, infrastructure, and regional security. This meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to deepen ties and address mutual interests.
During the talks, which included senior officials from both countries, the leaders focused on important issues such as boosting bilateral trade and increasing investment. Currently, the trade volume between Turkey and Pakistan stands at approximately $1.2–1.35 billion, significantly below their long-term goal of $5 billion. Discussions also explored avenues for increased Turkish investment in Pakistan’s energy, agriculture, transport, and technology industries.
Defense collaboration was a major point of emphasis, with talks covering a range of topics such as military equipment, joint training, intelligence sharing, and potential future co-production projects. The meeting highlighted the importance of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council in fostering collaboration across these sectors, reflecting the strategic significance both countries place on defense partnerships.
Digital connectivity and regional developments, including the Middle East, Afghanistan, and counter-terrorism efforts, were also on the agenda. The leaders reaffirmed their dedication to working together on these fronts, emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts to address regional security challenges.
Following their discussions, Erdoğan and Sharif were anticipated to announce the outcomes and any new agreements reached during their meeting at a joint press conference. This dialogue marks a significant step in strengthening the longstanding relationship between Turkey and Pakistan, with both sides keen to expand economic and strategic ties in the years ahead.
