However, the backgrounds of some of its key founding figures have drawn criticism, potentially undermining its message of renewal.
Among the senior members of the New Party are individuals such as Ali Mahir Başarır, Özgür Karabat, Burhanettin Bulut, Turan Taşkın Özer, and Veli Ağbaba. Each has been associated with various investigations or allegations, which brings into question the party’s commitment to offering a fresh start. Despite these associations, many of the cases involving these members remain unresolved due to parliamentary immunity or have not led to any convictions.
The formation of YP follows Özel’s departure from CHP and is perceived as an attempt to invigorate the political landscape with new perspectives. Nonetheless, the legal and political entanglements faced by some of its leaders could pose challenges to its credibility among voters seeking change.
The CHP, from which these members originated, has consistently refuted any claims of misconduct related to these issues. This situation underscores the complexities and difficulties involved in establishing a new political party that seeks to differentiate itself from its predecessors while grappling with the past affiliations of its members.
