Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has expressed concerns over the increasing power of social media algorithms, labeling the trend as “algorithm fascism” that challenges the clarity between truth and misinformation. At the Second Communication Council held in Ankara, he highlighted how digital platforms are significantly influencing public opinion, making it difficult for individuals to differentiate between fact and perception.
Erdoğan emphasized that while advancements in artificial intelligence and communication technologies have revolutionized the way information is shared, they have also amplified the dissemination of false information. He warned that social media’s ability to shape thought processes and interpretations of events poses a threat to cultural values and societal unity, as it can also alter historical narratives.
The president noted that the Communication Council is designed to contribute to the development of Türkiye’s future communication strategy. By bringing together government representatives, academics, media figures, and civil society experts, the event aims to enhance public communication policies that align with the nation’s long-term goals.
In his address, Erdoğan also touched on the ongoing investigation into the Ahbap charity, mentioning that authorities are pursuing legal action against those accused of betraying public trust after the earthquakes in 2023. He reassured that the legal process is holding accountable those involved in any exploitation related to the tragic events.
