Türkiye is intensifying its efforts to enhance maritime security and defense capabilities, as underscored by senior officials during the Teknofest Blue Homeland event. Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz emphasized the significance of protecting Türkiye’s maritime interests, commonly referred to as the “Blue Homeland,” in light of escalating geopolitical tensions, security threats, and competition for crucial technologies, energy resources, and trade routes.
Held at the Gölcük Naval Shipyard, the event highlighted Türkiye’s advancements in naval technology, featuring 37 vessels and four aircraft. Among the showcased military assets were the TCG Anadolu, TCG Istanbul frigate, TCG Derya, and the Murat Reis submarine. Additionally, domestically developed unmanned maritime systems were on display, underscoring Türkiye’s growing capability in integrating manned and unmanned platforms using artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and advanced sensors.
Yılmaz pointed out that Türkiye’s defense industry has achieved a localization rate exceeding 80%, marking significant progress in technological independence. The country is focused on enhancing its position as a leading global defense exporter by leveraging secure communications and cutting-edge technologies.
Teknofest Blue Homeland also served as a platform for innovation, with competitions dedicated to unmanned underwater systems, maritime vehicles, and underwater technologies. These contests are part of Türkiye’s initiative to inspire and cultivate the next generation of engineers and innovators in the defense sector.
