India’s cherry blossom calendar is more varied and more spectacular than most travelers realize, spanning from the high Himalayan valleys of the north to the pine-covered hills of the northeast across several months of the year. Each destination has its own flowering window, its own character, and its own set of cultural traditions tied to the seasonal blooms. Understanding when and where to go is the key to experiencing these fleeting natural events at their most magnificent.

In Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu Valley, the village of Dobhi sees its fruit orchards bloom with apricot, peach, and plum blossoms from late winter into spring, with the full bloom of each variety lasting just three to four days. The apple blossoms follow approximately five to seven days after the plum blossoms, continuing the seasonal progression. Travelers are advised to research current bloom conditions before visiting, as the narrow window of peak beauty makes timing an essential part of the travel plan.

Uttarakhand’s Almora district, particularly the Kasar Devi area, sees Himalayan cherry and peach blossoms emerge in late February and March, making it one of the earliest blossom destinations in the country. The nearest airport at Pantnagar is approximately 115 to 120 kilometers away, making road travel an important part of the journey. The Kasar Devi area is known among travelers as a place of profound natural beauty and spiritual tranquility, and the blossom season adds an extraordinary dimension to both qualities.

Kashmir’s Srinagar is best visited for cherry blossoms from late March to early April, when both the famous gardens and the informal spaces around Dal Lake are in full flower. The nearest international airport at Srinagar makes access straightforward for visitors traveling from major Indian cities. Ladakh, reached via Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh, is best visited for apricot blossoms in mid-April to early May, with the Nubra Valley villages of Turtuk, Diskit, and Hunder offering the most concentrated blossom experiences.

Shillong in Meghalaya stands entirely apart from the other destinations by hosting its cherry blossom festival in November — the only autumn cherry blossom event in India. The festival combines the natural spectacle of blooming cherry trees across the Khasi Hills with music, art, and cultural celebrations. Shillong Airport provides convenient access for visitors traveling to this unique event. The peak bloom lasts approximately two weeks, giving visitors a more generous window than the brief four to six day peak experienced at most other Indian blossom destinations.
